The Demise of Ahab's Lineage
Jehu was anointed king, thus fulfilling God's message to Elijah through Elisha. The 70 sons of Ahab faced a gory death when their heads were cut off and then piled at the city gate. King Ahesiah of Judah flees upon seeing all of this, but as a grandson of Ahab, he too is killed. It is his mother, Atholiah, who then rules over Judah while young Joash hides in the temple for six years. And then, Hazayel took the throne.
