The Failure Speech in Hockey
Hockey is best described as a small town. And some of the big city ideas are still filtering in to the fabric of that small town. The idea of luck in hockey has always been understood, but it didn't become part of the wider conversation in hockey until like 10 or 15 years. In Canada, we have welded hockey to our national identity in this fundamental way and turned it into a morality play. But that's why I say you kill yourself to win a coin flip in hockey. You kill yourself for the puck to land the right side up.
