The Importance of Men in Our Culture

Despite all the good coming from this current almond mom discourse, I think the conversation has room to go further. Men have shaped the aesthetic of what modern women should look like on film, on TV, in print, and in Hollywood. And when the systems of power present thin women as the ideal and fat women as something reprehensible, it makes so much sense to me that women who want the best for their daughters want them to be thin. So I totally get why a lot of them don't even see what they're doing. After all, when your whole world is shaped by patriarchy, it's kind of hard to see that you, yourself, are weaponizing patriarchy against your own daughter
