The Enlightenment and the Social World
We have a newtonian mechanical universe that seems to work pretty well in terms of making predictions. Why can't we apply these to the social world? Maybe the social world is something like a machine. The political system can be like a machine if we can tease out the, ah, the causal vectors. And then we can make predictions and then design a society that's going to be a ideally structured so it doesn't suffer from 30 years war or witch crazes.
