Ander: I've started thinking about aspects of in the last year or so, because i think a lot about what's happened to my discipline over the last 30, forty years. When i came out into the job market and becamea academic, the emphasis was on very high powered mathematics. The people who were respected and had prestige were the people who could use the most advanced mathematics. That's changed to day,. the people who are most respected and economics, the people who can do the most sophisticated statistical techniques to manipulate data and try to understand it.
