The Vietnam Analogy Isn't Quite Right

I don't think the Vietnam analogy is quite right for a few reasons. The casualties, the number of Americans that were fighting in Vietnam was like, I don't know, it's geometrically like larger than what we ever had in Afghanistan. 7,000 forces doing only counterterrorism, no longer fighting, going door-to-door, and fighting in the Civil War on behalf of the Afghan military is not what the U.S. was doing in Vietnam. And in that respect, I think it was sustainable in a way that Vietnam was not sustainable. So that's my counter, although I also can see that there are, of course, similarities there.
