The Relationship Between Sexuality and Language in Depression

In hysteria, you've got something that's called conversion hysteria, in which the mind actually becomes the body. In one patient I had with global hystericists, what we came to was a whole lot of linguistic play around what she didn't want to do. That's where we get sexuality and language coming together. We might have an illegitimate desire, or a prohibited desire, for a type of sexual relationship - but society does not allow it. So there's always a prohibited sexuality in us somewhere. And so you always get a conflict within the system symptom of hysteria.
