Introduction

Manchester City began as a church club, St Mark's West Gorton. They wore big white Christian crosses on their black shirts for that first fixture against the Mackelsfield Baptist. The top clubs are now largely owned by foreign investment groups. Some linked to regimes often regarded as ethically questionable. Campaigners talk of sport washing. There's misogyny, racism and homophobia on the terraces. But is football good for us? Is it a moral force for good? Or the opposite? That's our moral maze tonight.
