For Goodnight Moon, Brown took inspiration from something in her own daily life. Whatever she woke up feeling sad and struggled to get out of bed, she'd perform a kind of ritual. She would line bed and focus on different objects in the room that she was glad to have in her presence. The beginning of Goodnight Moon really is nothing more than a list. It's a list you read to fall asleep.
