The Fragments of History

When you go to a place and you see nothing but fragments, the reality is that there are no archival records or there are so few archival records. So one of the tensions I had was sort of like saying to myself, could I let the fragment be the fragment? Could I let the untranslated stay untranslated? Because it's true. I'm not going to have the full emotional experience. But I don't know if I would have had it anyway.
