What Is Liberalism?

Ricardo Munoz: What is liberalism, and how does it connect to democracy? He says there's a lot of different views about what liberalism is. But he argues that the term has its origins in Lockean social contractarianism. Not all social contractarian stories are liberal; Hobbes or Rousseau aren't, he says.munz: I don't think liberalism has to be understood as a theory about human nature. It's a theory about how we're thinking when we're thinking about politics.
