El Niño is a change in the way that wind would normally blow across the Pacific Ocean. It typically happens every seven years or so and just last week the US Meteorological Association NOAA declared the start of an El Niño phase. Scientists are warning that El Niño coupled with climate change will likely make next year 2024 the world's hottest year.
