Even as a young man, he had a desire to create the content of other people. He also tried writing editorials and fiction. In 18 forty two he published a novel which was called franklin evans or the inebriate. A critic called it inept as a temperance plea and worthless as fiction. An one gets the sense that whitman was trying to play the game,. Trying to write for money, aware of was supposed to be done, but not really into it.
