The battle for Stalingrad was won by the Germans on November 23, 1943. The Battle of Stalingrad will be re-opened in February this year to mark the 50th anniversary of the start of the war. Jim Boulden: Why are we talking about it now? It's because winter storm is preventing Soviet troops from getting there earlier. He says that once you've got an encirclement over a large part of your enemy then they can't get out.
