Jung's Consciousness
The unconscious for Jung is first and consciousness is simply something that arose out of unconsciousness. He interprets the mythological imagery in dreams not by asking the patient what does this remind you of but by looking around to see what that symbol has meant forever. This is also is that the unconscious compensates for consciousness. It comes from this body impulse. And so Jung has what he calls the collective unconscious as well.
