There's no pressure to try to save time because even if you take a little afternoon off from threshing grain, you head into the village green to watch a cockfight or two. The peasants didn't have clocks and calendars to compare themselves against but in our brain, that's just what we do automatically. For them, it was like the proverbial fish who had no idea what the water is because it is surrounded so completely.
