Is There an Upside to Being an Old Peasant?
Even on the most exhaustive days, it never occurred to you that you've got too much to do. There's no pressure to try to save time because even if you take a little afternoon off from threshing grain, you head into the village green to watch a cockfight or two. The peasants didn't have clocks and calendars to compare themselves against but in our brain, that's just what we do automatically. For them, it was like the proverbial fish who had no idea what the water is because it is surrounded so completely.
