One of the other things is to really have that editorial conversation and make sure that the author is not just passion for the project but their vision editorially works with what you are doing. A whole bunch of agents who absolutely won't offer any kind of representation until they know that theAuthor is open to listening to getting that input and they're prepared to revise.
