A Brief History of Constantinople

Vitalian was a usurper who tried to take control of Constantinople in 515. His forces occupied Seikai, just over the Golden Horn from the Theodosian walls. Anastasia's fleet destroyed his ships before he could reach them. He managed to escape back to the Balkans but most of his support had gone. No further uprising occurred in the capital in support of the usurper. A year later though, it was no longer the Emperor's concern. Bulgars came in force into Macedonia and Thessaly - they were stopped by Justin's nephew Germanus.
