The Problem With Democracy in America

I mean Americans are so allergic I think to authority kind of in every way, and it seems like ideologically people are divided between more authority the better. Tocqueville really I think draws this problem out very well, right, when he says basically Democrats want democracy all the way down; they don't realize that that actually undermines democracy. So you have to bring these aristocratic elements kind of consciously back into society. One of the places where he's concerned about it actually is the family,. He doesn't really talk much about education in democracy in America, he just says people get some education but he isn't interested in the structure of schools or anything like that.
