People have had the wrong idea of what a universal constructor will look like, he says. The issue of ownership and value of raw materials does not go away once the issue of human effort goes away. And how do you make money in a society with universal constructors? Well, you make money the same way that engineers do today by programming computers.

I speak with physicist David Deutsch about the universal constructor, a machine that can be programmed to cause any physically possible transformation.
