The Different Selves
There are different selves, as you point out in your book all the time. I couldn't help thinking about Jean-Paul Sartre. Somebody acts cowardly and then they'd be branded as a coward almost ontologically in terms of their being. And then they find they feel so much shame or remorse that a similar situation, let's say somebody's being assaulted, a stranger, and they act and they do something courageously, then they're courageous. They've changed themselves. The shelf is a completely different self. It may be that the situation elicits or dictates what's necessary.
