The writer of psalm 56 is speaking about wicked people when he says this, all day long, they twist my words. They are always plotting to harm me. The wicked are very skilled at twisting your words. So that they look righteous and good and you look unrighteous and bad. In some way, their speech is smooth as butter, yet war is in their heart. Their words are more soothing than oil,. Yet those words are actually drawn s ards. It's the implied accusation. Your critical nature, daughter, threatens our family values of togetherness and kindness. And mam's words harbor a threat.
