Stratified cuboidal epithelium are many layers of cube-shaped cells. They play a role with producing and secreting into pits in the gastrointestinal tract. Hello crime glands produce like a fatty lubricating fluid to protect the eyes. But interestingly, they produce all their secretory products within the cytoplasm. As they are ready to secrete, they undergo apoptosis - controlled form of death.
One of the four tissue types of the body, epithelia lines and protects our organs from the external and internal environment. In this episode, Dr Matt & Dr Mike explain how the different shape and layers of epithelia tell you what function it performs (form = functions) and highlight examples in the body where you can find each type. They also explore cancer, metaplasia, dysplasia, and Dr Matt's mums skin cancer diagnosis and surgery.
