There are a couple different definitions of a habit. The most common is that it's something you've repeated enough times to be more or less automatic. Habit should be small and easy to do and not very difficult and convenient, says VivoBethoot co-founder John MacIntosh. "Habits serve a purpose," he adds; they're effective at solving some kind of problem. And if you apply those three meanings to building better habits, you end up with a powerful system.
