The right kind of rhetoric is connected to love as in the divine madness sort of love. And the written word is essentially the non-lover. The whole lover versusnon-lover thing is also just a metaphor for the difference between the right kind and the wrong kind of rhetoric slash the written word. But I take it that actually Plato spent his whole life being a philosopher poet.
