The Evolution of Public Property in the 21st Century
Taxation is what allows the public sphere to exist at all. Property is only yours in so far as you can defend it as yours. We want to build the most clever society by instentivizing co-operation, which is the cultivation of wealth. But that disincentivizes betrayal. This is both between economic actors within the same enclave and betrayal by the defenders against the citizens. In other words, you need to make property very usconse to cultivate and very expensive to violate. It's the same power projection game that exists in nature at another scale.
