We need to know what is the actual reason behind any of the particular positions taken by some broad viewpoint. In examining environmentalism, we see numerous positions that together make up the distinctive viewpoint. Don't cut down trees, you're disturbing the spotted owl. Don't produce new goods, recycle old ones. No genetically modified food. Who knows what unforeseen consequences will come from such arrogant interference with nature?
