Curtis Chang: The ascension is another anchoring point for Christian humanism. It counteracts this notion that God just in the form of Jesus sort of tolerated humanity for 33 years and then maybe resurrected it, he says. Chang: I think when I think of the ascension, I think of promise of healing and restoration. And like I sort of said at the outset, like intimate communion with God one day in a way that we can only approximate here.
Curtis tackles this epoch defining question with Comment Editor in Chief, Anne Snyder Brooks. Together they explore the distinctive vision Christians have to offer a world beset by dehumanizing forces. This wide ranging exploration includes both the big ideas and stakes involved in this question, as well as practical steps each one of us can take to embody (in the words of Irenaeus) “the glory of God in a human being fully alive.”
