When you can no longer perceive the universe as being essentially alive and vastly intelligent, then you inhabit a dead world that has become dead. You cannot feel that there is more to everything that you perceive than meets the eye. There's infinitely more in a way one could say all you perceive with sensory perception is a surface layer, surface level of reality.
