McPherson built the largest sitting capacity church in the American continent. She would borrow animals from the Los Angeles Zoo to act out her sermons. McPherson faced resistance from some fellow fundamentalists because she was a woman. Some disagreed with her over-the-top dramatic style, which not all evangelicals found appropriate as an expression of the gospel.
