Two gordians were invested with the title of augustus. The senate decided to ratify their elevation, and declared maximinius a public enemy. They also created an executive council of 20 eminent senators for defence of italy. But they would soon become first victims of imperial back lash. There was only one roman legion stationed west of africa - in numidia. Numidia was controlled by a general who was either loyal to maximinius, or possibly both.
