Orca Acoustics - What Can You Play for Us?
Each orca pod that Dan studies is named and each has its own family call. These are the sounds they're using to stay connected with each other. There are other pods that make calls that may sound slightly similar, but not exactly the same. Orca's might hear something miles away from a different pod and be attracted to it. Looking for mates from outside the immediate family could help avoid genetic inbreeding.
