TSMC's Success Means It's Still in the Crossfire of Tensions

Julia Hess says there might be some strategic stockpiling in customers shopping elsewhere for the older legacy semiconductors. But that won't work for cutting edge chips because it's a totally different manufacturing process. If you want to switch from TSMC to Samsung, you have to come up with a completely new redesign of the chip which would take several years. So basically everything from your smartphone, PlayStation, to cars could not be manufactured without these chips. And yet there would not be any fix to change that.
