Some people think a part of the brain lights up when we're praying or meditating, and therefore that's all that prayer and meditation are. If you want to describe reality simply in neurochemical terms, go right ahead. Reality is multi-layered and it is amenable to different levels of explanation. Even I would argue at a spiritual level and a true understanding of the human will be open to that rich multi-layering description.
