Will knew that an accident would happen on his 2000 mile journey. In the West Desert of Utah, a five-day ride from Salt Lake, he was closing a wire gate when badger spooked and pulled his hand across the barbed wire. With a large open wound and no real bandage, Will worried about infection. He rode for the entire day with his left hand held out away from his dirty clothes and horse for nine hours.
