In 1912, another major strike took place in Kanawa County at Cabin Creek and Paint Creek. While the striking coal miners in Pennsylvania ended up winning a 10% pay increase, those in West Virginia didn't. The operators argued that the only way they could compete with Pennsylvania coal mines was by keeping labor costs low. Mother Jones chastised the men for letting their local laps and urged them to join the union again.
