The Importance of Diagnostic Criteria for Pelvic Inflammation Disease

The minimum diagnostic criteria of PID require any one of either adenaxal tenderness, cervical motion tenderness, or lower abdominal tenderness. But you can increase the specificity of the diagnosis by considering other factors for these patients. If they are febrile, if they have an elevated ESR CRP, if you know that they have documented gonorrhea or chlamydia or mycoplasma, those are all going to be things that are going to increase the likelihood that this patient does in fact have pelvic inflammatory disease.
