The topography of nan madol is artificial in so many ways, and how it's not built on the island. One of the traditions in micronesia is that people are associated with land. So if you think about the location of namadall, it's offshore. It's in a place where it's not claimed by any one. And if you have no man's land, you have every opportunity to become one of the more powerful places ever. That is, you're answerable to no one at all. You can create your own rules, you can createyour own linages. Very problematic indeed, several centuries there.
