How to Do a Peer Review Round Trip

For those who haven't gone through the full process of submitting, getting accepted or rejected and doing the whole peer review round trip I guess you could call it, what is this process like for someone who has done it? So you write a paper right and then you submit this paper to a venue. What ends up happening is usually you're assigned a few reviewers through a mostly automated process depends on the field. There's also a rebuttal process which is something that I've been working on where authors get the chance to respond to the reviewers reviews before the reviewers finalize the reviews by discussing with each other.
