A Long Obedience in the Same Direction
Eugene Peterson has this quote that struck me years ago and it's from his book, A Long Obedience in the Same Direction. He says one aspect of the world that I have found to be particularly dangerous to Christians is the assumption that anything worthwhile can be acquired at once. And so that struck me because I think human nature is if it's going to be good for me, I can learn it in 24 hours. But now having been a ministry this long, raising kids of my own, I think some of my greatest joys and some of the greatest things I've seen God do in my life have taken years to see any fruit from.
