The Problems With 1st Corinthians 11
The big hall mark is this idea that human beings can be filled with the Holy Spirit. Paul himself had long hair while he was in Corinth and Luke makes a reference to Paul cutting his hair when he left Corinth in relation to a vow he had made before he went there. I reject the cultural reading of 1st Corinthians 11 on good grounds really, because it invites us to understand this in terms of a cultural practice that's very problematic. There wasn't actually one cultural practice that everyone conformed to so the idea that if I wore a head covering that I would defend nobody or that if I didn't I would defend everybody is actually not true.
