The History of the Carthaginian Empire

The Phokians arrived on Corsica and Sardinia in the 6th century BC. The Etruscan joined forces with the Carthaginians, to oppose the Greeks sometime around 540 BC. A 25 year struggle ensued for Carthaginian pacification of the island. According to sources, the Carthaginia brought about the collapse of Tartessos by 530 BC,. But there is no archaeological evidence to suggest a prolonged Carthaginian occupation of southwestern Spain at this point. Most of their efforts appear to have been directed towards the reorganization and expansion of existing Phoenician settlements across Iberia.
