Is the Traditional Mount Sinai the Real Mount Sinai?

The traditional Mount Sinai is thought to be Mount Sinai. Where did this tradition come from? Back during Constantine when he became emperor of Rome, his mother was trying to facilitate and help Christianity. And so as she traveled, she was told by those in the area, the Sinai, that this was where the event of the Exodus happened. That then became the location that that empire identified as the true location from Mount Sinai.
