The Scarlet Letter

Hester prynne was dressed in a crimson velvet tunic, embroidered with fantasies and flourishes of gold thread. The child's whole appearance reminded the beholder of the token which hester prynNE was doomed to wear upon her bosom. She resembled an infant pestilence or some half fledged angel of judgment whose mission was to punish the sins of the rising generation. Only in con quince had hester contrived so perfectly to represent the scarlet letter in her appearance.
