I see epistemic communities as a tool for understanding better what we do and who we are. Concepts are great symbols, great signifiers, but please don't take dates as theory. This is not meant to be an uncompassing theory of international law. The end is to fix the boundaries of what law is and to set parameters for argument. And if you look at international law trying to wear a pair of spectacles that allow you to avoid a blurred vision would be no less than making it look.
