Introduction

This week we're going to talk about Aristotle's Poetics. One of the things you should bear in mind in reading the Poetics is that it's a fragmentary work. The portion that we have deals primarily with tragedy and says some things about comedy and about epic. A lot of people think this is Aristotle's lecture notes for the lectures he gave in his school.
