The Oldest Will of the Anglo Saxon Period
A will was written in the mid nine hundreds, sometime between nine forty six and nine 51. This particular will is one of the oldest surviving wills from the anglo saxon period. It's believed that it may have been written by a scribe from the north or eastern midlands. The opening lines of the will are, this is alfgares quida. This is alfgars qued. Qued was the old english word for a will.
