I was sentenced to 11 and a half years in prison. Many of my students who I indoctrinated ended up in Syria and became some of the chief propagandists for the organization. They wanted to continue to communicate with me about like potted attacks and what was going on. In actuality, it was an ability for us to gather intelligence. And so after three years of incarceration, I went in front of a judge for resentencing. The US government said that I had gathered more intelligence on Americans who traveled overseas to join the Islamic State than the cumulative counterterrorism law enforcement agency in the United States was able to do. So the judge released me right away.
