On 23rd of March 2020, exactly three years ago, then Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the British people to stay at home. Two days later, the Coronavirus Act was passed by Parliament giving the government unprecedented powers of control. At first it was a novelty, some time off, as the nation bashed in the unusually warm spring sunshine. But pretty soon it was clear that three weeks to squash the Sombrero was, to coin a phrase, old hat.
