CHAPTER

Zheng He's Tribute Missions to Cambodia

Zheng He's voyages were significant because they helped to establish closer trade links and diplomatic relations between China and many other countries including Cambodia. His expeditions were also important for spreading Chinese culture and influence throughout the region. In the late 17th century there was a Chinese named Mojo who's referred to in most history books as Makgu. He originally came from western Guangdong and established this city of Ha-Tin right on the border of Cambodia and Vietnam. And by the early 1800s so far had Cambodia fallen politically it was placed under joint suzerainty of both countries causing Cambodia to no longer exist as a sovereign state.
